Academic Intervention Services (AIS) which supplements the general curriculum instruction to assist students in meeting the New York State learning standards, as well as student support services which may include guidance, counseling, attendance, and study skills needed to support improved academic performance. Academic intervention services are additional general education instructional and/or support services that assist students in meeting State learning standards.

AIS are provided in addition to, and must not supplant, special education services.

The English as a New Language (ENL) Program is offered to students in grades K-12 to support English Language Learners (ELLs) in learning English. Classes are available to students from entering level (beginning), through the advanced level. ENL classes are designed to help ELLs develop and strengthen their English Language proficiency, in accordance with the NY State Common Core Learning Standards. As required by NY State, a student’s eligibility is determined by the New York State Identification Test for English Language Learners (NYSITELL), an incoming screening test. Once students are in the ENL Program their English proficiency is measured annually by the New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT), and supported through an additional two years after achieving English proficiency.  

All ELLs receive ENL instruction by certified ENL teachers.  

Occupational therapy is designed to maintain, improve, or restore function of students in all education-related activities, including neuro-musculoskeletal function; motor function including fine motor, oral motor, and visual motor integration; sensory and perceptual function; cognitive, and psychosocial function.

Activities emphasize independence in daily living skills and school participation in various settings including classroom, bathroom, cafeteria, and playground.

Physical therapy emphasizes physical function of gross motor skills and independence in different settings. Physical therapists increase a student’s ability to participate in various school functions by remediating or compensating for musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, or cardiopulmonary impairments.

Physical therapists employ various techniques including addressing deficits in body structure and function, suggesting adaptations to physical tasks, recommending assistive devices, and adapting the environment.

My name is Rosie Ceglio and I am your Elementary School Counselor.  I was raised in Westchester County and graduated from Long Island University with a Master’s Degree in Education in School Counseling, where I also became certified in New York State.  Prior to coming to Rye, I worked in Brooklyn with students in grades K-4.  

According to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), "The elementary school years set the foundation for developing the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary for children to become healthy, competent, and confident learners."  We will work collaboratively to deliver a comprehensive school counseling program to best meet the academic and social-emotional needs of our elementary school students through classroom lessons, small group counseling, individual counseling, and check-ins.  We are happy to work together with families and faculty/staff to support the potential of every student as they develop the skills to become life-long learners who can thrive in a global environment as responsible, caring citizens who think critically, communicate effectively, collaborate, and creatively solve problems.

The school psychologists are devoted to promoting the social and emotional health and development of our learners.   Their comprehensive educational backgrounds allow them to meet the academic, emotional, and behavioral needs of our students.  School psychologists are an integral part of the MTSS, CSE, CPSE, and 504 processes.  They are a part of the multi-disciplinary teams that conduct initial and re-evaluation testing. 

The psychologists offer formal and informal support services ranging from counseling to teacher consultation.  They are available to support students and families who are navigating the day-to-day challenges and successes of childhood.  School psychologists are an integral component of the learning environment supporting aides, teachers, and administrators. 

A Special Education Teacher is an educator who specializes in teaching children with physical, mental, emotional, and learning disabilities.

They develop tailored teaching plans, collaborate with parents and support staff, and assess students’ progress to help them achieve important learning milestones.

Speech language pathologists evaluate and work with students who have delays in speech, voice, and/or language.  They can focus on speech sounds, language, literacy, language, and social communication.  Additionally, they can support students with voice or fluency delays.  They also can support cognitive communication.

The speech pathologists provide direct, indirect, and/or building-level speech services to meet the needs of all learners.
