About our School

Milton School serves students from kindergarten through fifth grade. The school is located in the lovely Sound Shore community of Rye, New York, approximately 25 miles north of New York City. The school and community are steeped in a rich historical and cultural tradition. Milton was the first mainland area of Rye to be settled. The Coes, Studwells, Disbrows, and Budds were the original settlers of the early Milton community of the 1660s and 1670s. The Timothy Knapp House, located at the corner of Milton Road and Rye Beach Avenue, was the site of the original Thomas Studwell dwelling.

Milton School alumni are noted for their accomplishments and community service. Many families have had several generations of children attend our school. Three of our illustrious alumnae are Barbara Bush, former First Lady, Courtenay Becker-Dey, class of 1975 and Olympic Champion, and Dr. David M. Lee, co-sharer of the Nobel prize in physics in 1996 for the discovery of superfluidity in helium III.
Milton School is known for its rigorous academic program within a warm, nurturing, environment. Visitors to the school often comment on the friendly, caring ambiance they experience as they meet our students, faculty, staff, and parents. Our school philosophy centers on respect for oneself, peers, learning, and the school environment.

Milton School was awarded two Blue Ribbons for academic excellence based on the performance of our students. Our school/home partnership is critical to our success. The Milton School parent body is highly supportive of our endeavors. The Parent Teacher Organization provides a comprehensive Cultural Arts Program, a Teacher Assistance Program, and a host of educational field trips and morning and after-school clubs. Parents, teachers, and administration also collaborate on our Excellence Team.  We are proud of our student's academic success, athletic prowess, musical and artistic talents, and good citizenship.
