Dear RCSD Community,
Happy Friday the 13th! An unlucky day for some, but considered lucky by others. Here’s hoping for good luck for our varsity athletes in action at States this weekend (see below).
Juneteenth Holiday
Next Thursday, June 19, schools and offices will be closed for the Juneteenth holiday, which celebrates the end of slavery and African American achievements and culture. The Town of Rye is again planning a commemoration event and a day of service beautifying the historic African American cemetery at Greenwood Union on Saturday, June 21, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. For more information, visit the Town website here.
Dear RCSD Community,
Bell to Bell Cell Phone Ban
As you may have heard, the Governor’s proposed “bell to bell” cell phone ban is now law. There seem to be a lot of opinions about the ban, but I think we can all agree that the law stems from a desire to protect children, both from the distraction that cell phones pose during school hours, and from a mental health standpoint, based on studies that show that too much social media consumption can be harmful. The District’s Policy Committee is working to create a cell phone policy; all New York State school districts are required to have one in place by August 1. We will communicate the new policy to our students and families well in advance of the new school year.
Dear RCSD Community,
We made it, folks! Welcome to June a month-long cavalcade of final exams and projects, field days, moving-up ceremonies, and end-of-year and senior class celebrations. As a reminder, the High School, Middle School, and Elementary School end-of-year calendars are all posted on the homepage of the District website at the bottom in the “News & Updates” section to help you keep track of it all. Let the countdown begin!
